Teaser trailer for new Beverly Hills Cop movie shows Eddie Murphy back as Axel Foley

On Dec 14, Netflix dropped the first teaser trailer of Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F – the fourth instalment of the iconic Beverly Hills Cop film series. Eddie Murphy makes his triumphant return as Axel Foley, alongside a few familiar faces from the franchise including John Ashton as John Taggart, Judge Reinhold as Billy Rosewood and Bronson Pinchot as Serge.

Newcomers include Taylour Paige, who plays Axel Foley’s estranged daughter Jane, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Bobby Abbott, Axel Foley’s new partner who also happens to be Jane’s ex-boyfriend.

Also seen in the trailer is Kevin Bacon whose character interacts ominously with Axel Foley.

Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F is slated to air on Netflix sometime in 2024, 30 years after Beverly Hills Cop III. The first Beverly Hills Cop movie premiered almost 40 years ago in 1984 and was critically acclaimed. In 2003, The New York Times selected it as one of the 1000 Best Movies Ever Made.

Speaking to Netflix’s Tudum, producer Jerry Bruckheimer praised Murphy: “Eddie’s such an incredible artist. He can do drama, he can do comedy – he can do anything. And he’s the same Axel Foley. He’s still on the streets. He’s still doing what he does. Obviously with age you get wiser. But he still has the twinkle in his eye.”

Echoing those sentiments, director Mark Molloy said: “Some of the funniest moments in Axel F are when Eddie’s improvising. For me, a big part of my job was to create the right environment, cast the right people around Eddie to allow him to do what he does best.”
