Busking duo The ETC wins Battle Of The Buskers competition

After weeks of electrifying performances that saw contestants taking to the streets of Singapore, Mediacorp’s reality show Battle Of The Buskers has crowned its winner: Busking duo The ETC.

Comprising 47-year-old Tristan Ong and 48-year-old Joey Wee, The ETC emerged victorious after battling it out on Sunday (Nov 5) in a live finale held at CQ @ Clarke Quay Fountain Square.

The finale comprised two rounds and in each round, the finalists had to perform a song to earn the votes of audiences and impress the panel of judges made up of singer-songwriter Pakho Chau, renowned musician Kay Huang and local producer Jim Lim.

Results were tabulated based on 50 per cent online voting and 50 per cent scoring by judges. The ETC emerged victorious after performing 又十年 (Another 10 Years), a song that resonated greatly with audiences and demonstrated their strong vocals.

As the winning act of Battle Of The Buskers, The ETC walked away with S$10,000 cash and a JBL PartyBox Ultimate speaker worth S$2,000.

In a statement to the press, Mediacorp’s Head of Commissioning & Community Engagement Sabanitha Shanmugasundram said: “Battle Of The Buskers was launched specifically as an initiative to spotlight the local busking culture and we are thrilled to have raised more awareness of our street musicians and showcased their musical prowess to a wider audience through Mediacorp’s network.

“The contestants themselves have also brought us stunning live performances week after week and we are extremely proud of them, especially The ETC – congratulations on your win tonight! We hope all our buskers continue to brighten our streets and we look forward to their future performances!”
