Zhang Ziyi and Wang Feng have called it quits after eight years of marriage. The two celebrities made the announcement on their respective Weibo accounts on Mon (Oct 23).
The statement reads:
“Dear friends, thank you all for your continued concern and support for me and Brother Feng. After eight years of marriage, we decided to dissolve our marriage after careful consideration and discussion.
“We had a wonderful marriage together. Over the past eight years, we have taken care of our families, raised our children, and built a happy life with love. There is no dispute between us about right and wrong. Separation does not mean disappointment or betrayal. This is a decision made by two adults together and we hope to get everyone’s understanding and support.
“The joys and sorrows of life are not a simple judgement of right and wrong.”
Zhang, 44, and Wang, 52, ended their statement, saying that there “will no further response to this matter”.
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon star Zhang and Wang, a popular rock singer and songwriter, got married in May 2015 and have two children together: A daughter born in December 2015 and a son born in January 2020. The marriage was Wang’s third and Zhang’s first.
Zhang was previously engaged to Israeli-American venture capitalist Aviv Nevo; that relationship ended in 2010 after three years.
